Ideas don't stop when they are launched

Launch is the least interesting moment in the life of an idea. The eighteen months afterwards are the actual work.

Most companies treat a launch as a finish line. It is closer to a first breath.

An idea released into a market becomes a signal. Signals get repeated, distorted and adopted by people who were never in the room and never read the brief. Repetition becomes movement. Movement becomes echo. The job is not to make the loudest noise on day one — it is to build something with enough structure that it survives being described badly.

There is a practical test for this. Ask three people outside the company to explain what you do, six months after launch. If the three answers disagree, the problem is not awareness. It is architecture.

Design for the echo, not the announcement.
